Have you seen hooded crows where you live? I haven’t seen any of them in Germany and the friends, that I asked, haven’t either. The first one of this beautiful birds were spotted by me in Vilnius, Lithuania, in a beautiful park. (The city itself is very beautiful and you should visit it, if you haven’t already.) The birds were so nice and brave and everywhere. Since then I have seen them a lot of times in eastern Europe and were happy to watch them. To change something up, I decided to paint a hooded crow instead of another octopus. It was a pretty easy and fast project and it took me only about 3 hours to paint – with drying sessions in between. I also used my smartphone again to film the process and uploaded it to YouTube. This time I made a voice over again and rambled helplessly explaining what I did there.

It were the liquid watercolors by Ecoline that I used again, this time only the color black for the crow, as I wanted to keep it monochromatic. Some masking fluid covered up the eye during the first layer and there was a gold tone from a set of Kuretake watercolors “Starry Colors” used for the golden circle. The circle looks a little like a sun to me and I like that.

I used the wet in wet technique for the crow and the feathering effect of the liquid watercolors looks a lot like feathers to me. Of course there were still details that had to be added afterwards, to complete the painting. It’s going to be another postcard and has already the size. I will just seal it up and it’s ready to be sent away. A little accident happened when I first started painting it. I obviously didn’t wash the water container properly, so there were still metallic pigments left in there from a previous painting. The whole crow is sparky now. But well, what can I do? Habt einen wundervollen Tag!/ Have a wonderful day!
