Hello wonderful people!

It happened again, I waited far too long to review the paints, that I’ve enjoyed so much over the last few months. It’s the Lukas Aquarell 1862* professional watercolours, that are made in Germany. They are vegan as they don’t contain any honey or oxgull and are cheaper in comparison to other professional brands as Schmincke or Daniel Smith. Still they perform well, are well pigmented and have a nice quality.

The granulating colours are awesome and so much fun to play with! These I enjoyed the most during my paintings. If you have followed the blog or channel, you have seen this paints in action already over the last few months. (Every painting in the sketchbook from the last post.) And I’m really enjoying them.

As mentioned, if you want to have vegan paints in good quality you are limited to certain brands. As these do not contain honey or oxgull these paints are vegan. Exception are non vegan pigments such as Ivory Black.

Cicada Detail

The paints also contain some additives, which are not named. But I can assure you, that they are not chalky, that they are clear (of course this depends on the pigment) and glowy. There is a colour shift during the drying process, where paints look darker, lighter or more muted after drying. But it’s normal in most watercolours, so I wasn’t worried a lot about that. (Also you can see it in the video.)

Video Review

The chuncky tubes are another thing, that makes me like this paints. They are filled with 24ml of colour, have a big opening and are just cute. No other company has this size and shape of watercolour tubes.

Of course all of that is just my personal opinion and I know there are artists out there, that don’t like these paints. It’d good that we can choose and look for the paints we enjoy most, right?

If you are curious and want to try them out, you can wait a little and subscribe to my YouTube channel, because I will have a giveaway once I reach 1000 subs. A part of the giveaway will be a tiny limited palette of carefully chosen Lukas colours. (Not sponsored! All products were purchased and paid by me!)

I wish you a creative day. Stay safe and wear your masks! 😉
