Hallo meine Freund*innen,

Lana

Hello friends,

I hope you are all well and ready for a new art adventure. Todays journey takes us to exploring the new super granulating colours by Schmincke. It’s their limited edition of colours this year. They were sold out in most shops, that restocked them recently, so I was lucky to get them all (not sponsored, all bought and paid by me) and review them for you.

The 15 new colours are kind of divided into 3 sets: Galaxy, Deep Sea and Glacier. The first “set” to review is the Galaxy set, which you can see in the video below.

The set contains the following 5 colours:

  • Galaxy Pink (PV16, PBr33)
  • Galaxy Brown (PV62, PBr6)
  • Galaxy Violet (Confirmed!!! PR233, PB29)
  • Galaxy Blue (PG50, PB29)
  • Galaxy Black (PBk11, PB29)
test painting – bird on branches with berries

Especially in the colour Galaxy Violet, it’s visible, that there is more likely the pigment PR233 (Potters Pink) being used instead of a brown colour. To verify my suspicion, I have contacted Schmincke, but have not received an answer yet. As soon as I do, I will post about it here on my blog.

To test the properties of the paints, I have used them for painting. To make the berries in the painting pop, I’ve used Transparent Yellow and Quin. Gold Hue by Schmincke.

Bild mit Tuben

The background of the painting shows the granulation in the paints beautifully. Granulation is the effect of heavier, bigger particles that settles down in the crevices of the paper, while lighter particles move with the water and tint the whole area. That’s why I used so much water to enhance this effect and show the full potential of the colours. This effect is well visible in the video as well.

I have to admit, that many are tempted to buy these paints, that are only available in the big tubes. But they are easy to be mixed from colours you might already have in your palette. Buying the premixed tubes should be seen as buying a convenience colour. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s also not a neccessary one. So if you’re on a budget, check out sunandcolors.com, see what the mixes are and if you can create them on your own. All swatches are already uploaded, so you can check them out. Just type in “super” in the search bar.

The other 10 colours of the release will be reviewed soon and the review uploaded as soon as I can. Untill then I hope that you’re having a great time and enjoy your creativity!

See you!

Lana
