Also musste ich meine Herangehensweise ändern.

After trying out the White Night watercolors, that I really love, I wanted to try out the gouache paints from the same producer (Nevskaya Palitra). Funnily the paints are called “Master Class” and are supposed to have artist quality. I have to admit, that I never worked with gouache before and was exited to try out this new to me medium. It was very strange and “soft”. The colors were fast dissolved by water, even when they were already dry on the paper. Painting in layers was impossible. So I had to adapt to the medium fast. It was fun and I quite like the paintings I made using these paints.

But let’s start at the beginning. The paints come in a set of 16 jars, two of the jars are either zinc white or titanium white. I would have preferred to have one jar of either white, but no. In my set there were two of the zinc white. I guess titanium white is supposed to be more opaque. The other colors are very nice and mix together nicely. I had no issues to getting the color I wanted just by mixing. When wet the paints are a little different in color than the dry version, they also are more transluscent when wet. This makes painting in layers impossible. This issue is what made painting the portrait so difficult for me. After the face I just had no patience left for the hair. Sorry.

Painting the heron on the other hand was a nice experience and I enjoyed the process. I did not paint in layers there, but adapted my style. I also filmed the painting process of the heron, so you can watch it if you want.

To put the paint in the jars was not the greatest idea of the producer. They were incredibly difficult to open and I even had to cut open the lids to get to the paint. After filling them in the palette, they were easy to use. The palette itself was bought online at Bösner. You can watch the full review of the paints here including all the tests:

I have to mention again, that these were the first gouache paints I ever painted with and that I have nothing to compare them to. The paints cost 16,99€ on amazon.

Habt einen wundervollen und kreativen Tag!/ Have a wonderful and creative day!
